HOWE, Texas — A Grayson County business is not only backing the blue but their spouses.
Handgun Instructors of Texas is located in Howe. Brandy Hudman is the co-owner.
“We do license to carry classes as well as basic handgun training and advanced hand gun training,” said co-owner Brandy Hudman.
They offer classes to anyone, but allow the spouses of Grayson County law enforcement to attend free of charge.
“Sometimes they’re not used to guns or they aren’t confident to take this class,” said Hudman. “This is just a way to encourage them and encourage them to keep their family safe.”
Hudman is married to a police officer. She says the ambush and shooting death of five Dallas officers hit close to home.
“I can’t lie it does,” said Hudman. “It’s heartbreaking to see it happen anywhere but when it happens in a place so close to you where you just had supper or watched a Mavericks game, it’s hard.”
Hudman thinks more spouses may now consider attending the class.
“I know if I had not been licensed I would sure think twice about it,” said Hudman.
The license to carry course includes four to six hours in the classroom, a comprehensive exam and time at a private gun range.
Hudman says they do this because they care. “Our hope is that anyone who wants to carry will pursue it.”
