HIT Courses

The Texas Department of Public Safety sets the course training requirements and course length. The classroom training includes:concealed-handgun-license-course

(I) The application process

(II) License restrictions and rules

(III) Laws relating to weapons and to the use of deadly force

(IV) Handgun use, proficiency, and safety

(V) Nonviolent dispute resolution

(VI) proper storage practices for handguns

For the handgun proficiency, you will shoot a timed course of fire consisting of 50 rounds fired at a 24″x 45″ silhouette target. Twenty rounds are fired from the 3-yard line, 20 rounds are fired from the 7-yard line and the remaining ten rounds are fired from the 15-yard line. We conduct the handgun proficiency part of the course the same day as the classroom portion.

*This class is for individuals who are familiar with their firearm and familiar with basic firearm safety.

This is a 4-6 hours basic handgun training class. Upon successful completion of this class, students will be able to safely handle their handgun and confidently fire their handgun at a static target ranging from 3 to 15 yards. Class size is limited to 10 students. Topics include:

  • Firearm safety
  • Firearm manipulation (loading, unloading)
  • Stance
  • Grip
  • Sight alignment/sight picture
  • Breathing
  • Trigger control
  • Follow through
